A legacy of Syrian Christian diaspora settled near Mylapore since 1930's.

St. Elias Syrian Orthodox Simhasana Church, Chennai (Formerly Madras) is the first congregation of Jacobite Syrian Christians established in the land of St. Thomas, the blessed Martyr and the Apostle of Jesus Christ. Late Lamented Mor Yulios Elias Metropolitan, the Patriarchal delegate founded this congregation in 1936 at St. Matthias Church, Vepery, for fulfilling the spiritual needs of the people of Syrian Orthodox faith stationed in Madras and nearby places.
This Congregation is situated in the heart of Chennai city (2 km away from central railway station & metro station) and presently is governed by His Grace Osthatheos Mor Isaac, the Metropolitan of the Mylapore Diocese under the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church.
Considering the convenience of the IT professionals, nurses, students etc who live and work in the city, the service timings have been scheduled as stated below.


On Sundays:
Morning prayers: 10: 00 AM
Holy Qurbono: 10: 30 AM
